Authoring Activities in Interactive Digital Storytelling

Workshop: Education in Interactive Digital Storytelling

October 31st, 2010 (Sunday)
Half-day Workshop (afternoon)
Workshop day of the ICIDS 2010 conference
Informatics Forum, University of Edinburgh

Organisers: Ulrike Spierling, Nicolas Szilas, Steve Hoffmann, Urs Richle
Email: education@interactive-storytelling.com

Target groups: We address fellow colleagues and members of the Interactive Storytelling community with a commitment in IS- / Games education or in interdisciplinary projects. The workshop is most interesting for people who want to share knowledge between different disciplines (arts and computer science) and would like to start building a community to exchange and create educational material.

Participation: Please consult our Call for Submissions. The workshop will be structured around participant presentations about experiences and suggestions of educational approaches in Interactive Storytelling, such as proposed curricula, practical experience reports, as well as general viewpoints on Interactive Storytelling philosophy. We invite contributions from diverse disciplines, in particular we want to include proposals from artists/writing/design as well as from computer science.

The attendance of the morning tutorial would be an interesting starting point for discussions, but it is not mandatory for participation in this workshop.

Workshop: October 31st, 2010
Half-day Workshop (afternoon)

We are looking for position papers of colleagues with either an expertise, or experiences (good or bad!), maybe a strong interest, or lastly crazy and creative ideas for teaching Interactive Digital Storytelling in either artistically/creative or technically motivated seminars (or other forms of education). We are also interested in industrial or other practical experience reports of the knowledge exchange necessary in interdisciplinary projects.

We are especially interested in discussing the challenges of marrying creative approaches and AI-based technological features. We want to know about difficulties as well as success stories.

Form of Submission:
Position paper: 2-4 pages A4 including pictures and references
Submission by email to: education@interactive-storytelling.com (you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt)
Deadline: 05 October 2010
